The pish pesh funkster bib is sewn by a sewing circle of women who have come to Australia as refugees from Africa. They are supported by SCARF - Strategic
Community Assistance to Refugee
Families - an independent, not-for-profit, community based association established to enhance the
resettlement process of permanent resident status refugee entrants in the Illawarra region of NSW.
pish pesh and SCARF partnered through each organisation's commitment to a similar ethos, working towards employment opportunity and meaningful social participation for newly settled refugee women. The provision of a local, community based opportunity has proven invaluable not only in terms of employment, but in the development of a regular community hub of friendship, and skills share for the women.
By purchasing a
funkster bib, ‘we’ can
continue to support
sustainable employment,
encourage
empowerment and
support self-sustainablitiy for some of Australia’s marginalised women.
We are currently looking for not-for-profit organisations to be a part of the pish pesh journey. If you are interested or know of an organisation that could offer printing, sewing or packaging please email us. We are excited to hear from you.
